Owen Hargreaves has slammed Erik ten Hag’s tactics, claiming they were a key factor in Manchester United’s 3-0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
The Red Devils triggered a one-year contract extension for Ten Hag in the summer, but only after considering alternatives in the wake of an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League and unexpected FA Cup success, beating Man City in the final.
And the Man Utd boss is already back under pressure after taking three points from their opening three Premier League matches of the season and ยูฟ่าเบท Hargreaves has hit out at the Dutchman for having his full-backs, Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot, too high up the pitch against Liverpool
“The first goal was a poor pass from Casemiro and he got a lot of criticism, but full-backs shouldn’t be there against a team like Liverpool,” Hargreaves said.
“Their positioning is crazy, they are too high up. Okay, it’s a bad pass, but look at the two full-backs against Liverpool, it’s crazy! And that’s down to the manager. Mazrawi should at the far post but he’s not, so Diaz can score easily.”
“I said it depends on the manager because obviously he said, ‘When we have the ball, you have to push high’, but in reality you can only push high. When you have more possession, and they didn’t do that at all.”
The defeat has seen Ten Hag come under renewed criticism, with all three goals coming as United attempted to overload their attackers and lose possession in midfield.
